Diego Maradona is no stranger to major tournament controversies, and he’s spoken up after the penalty that helped Mexico reach the Gold Cup final.
Panama were furious with the decision from American referee Mark Geiger, and Maradona has called for the official to be fired.
The former Argentina manager, who also wants the game to be replayed, has no personal stake in the matter. He just knows an injustice when he sees one.
Maradona dredged up the 1990 World Cup final, where he captained his country.
Argentina lost that game 1-0 to West Germany after a controversial penalty was awarded by Edgardo Codesal, a Uruguayan-born Mexican referee.
He conveniently failed to mention a certain incident from the previous World Cup, though.
