Odds have been slashed on Ryan Giggs becoming the new Aston Villa manager

It could be his time.

And there we were thinking that he’d be heading to Swansea.

Ladbrokes have slashed odds on Ryan Giggs becoming the new manager of Aston Villa to just 6/1, with only Steve Bruce and David Wagner of Huddersfield Town ahead of him in the betting.

Villa parted company with Roberto di Matteo at the weekend, following a run of form that has seen the fallen giants record just a single win from 11 games in the Championship so far.

Giggs had been at 12/1 to take on his first role outside of Manchester United but a flurry of activity has seen those odds halved overnight.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes News said, “Giggsy stunned the world at Villa Park back in 1999, and fans will be hoping he can conjure more magic should he be handed the reigns,” referring to Giggs’ legendary strike for United against Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final.

Another name in the reckoning is that of former Villa assistant manager Roy Keane, despite the fact that Giggs’ former United teammate only recently extended his contract with Martin O’Neill at the FAI.

Tim Sherwood is at 12/1, and we think that would be just super. He wants another crack at it after all, and who are we to say no?
