Nice try.
Whether it’s dabbing, hanging out with Stormzy, the latest hairstyle, or the most outlandish new fashion, Paul Pogba has a habit of latching onto what’s current and newsworthy and making it his own.
Perhaps more than any other modern footballer, he is acutely aware of the power of social media and his profile outside of the chalked parameters of the football pitch. And what’s hot right now? Donald Tru…Conor McGregor.
McGregor of course defeated Eddie Alvarez by second-round knockout to win the UFC Lightweight Championship and thus became the first simultaneous two-division champion in UFC history.
True to form, Pogba bounded upon the Notorious bandwagon with gusto, celebrating the Irishman’s success whilst training with France by performing the infamous McGregor strut. It was a half passable effort too…
Although to be honest, it was more Ian Brown swagger than McGregor parade, all loose limbs and rocking side to side. That sense wasn’t helped by the Manc twang of his “Who’s the man?” enquiries following the performance.
He has proved he can talk the talk, and (sort of) walk the walk, but Manchester United fans will be hoping he can let his feet – and goals – do the talking against Arsenal on Saturday.
