Some big boxing fights will be coming to BT Sport next year

This feels like a big step.

If you’ve got a BT Sport subscription you’ll soon be able to access some in-demand boxing action without doing anything more.

The broadcaster has struck a deal with BoxNation to show a number of world, European and British title fights starting next year, including 20 Saturday night cards to be aired directly after live Premier League matches.

While a list of bouts is yet to be made public, those fights on BoxNation’s schedule for the rest of 2016 include Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO World Middleweight title bout against US-based Russian fighter Artur Akavov.

Saunders’ fight – scheduled for November 26 – will be the first title defence for the 23-0 Hertfordshire southpaw.

Other bouts on the slate for BoxNation before the turn of the year include former world champion Bernard Hopkins’ light-heavyweight contest with Joe Smith Jr and Lancashire fighter Jack Catterall’s WBO super-lightweight intercontinental title bout with Diego Gonzalo Luque.

BT Sport has already expanded its sports coverage beyond Premier League, Champions League and Europa League football with 2017 in mind.

Its cricket coverage will also be stepped up next year, culminating in the Ashes series due to run in Australia from November 2017 to January 2018 and also including Australia’s other test, one-day and T20 internationals on home soil.
