Theo Walcott couldn’t help resorting to football clichés when describing the birth of his son

At the end of the day, she's done triffic

“You know, she did fantastically well.”

Sunday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth was the icing on the cake on a pretty special weekend for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott.

Walcott and his wife Melanie welcomed a little boy, Arlo, into the world on Friday and, as is the custom amongst footballers, he celebrated scoring in Arsenal’s victory with the ‘rock the cradle’ celebration.

Walcott was obviously a happy man when interviewed along with Alexis Sanchez after the game, but despite the events of the previous few days, he couldn’t help but throw out some standard football clichés when asked about the new addition to the Walcott family.

For a few brief moments, it looked like this might be a departure from a traditional post-match interview, but Walcott managed to switch back into the usual footballer mode remarkably quickly after uttering the line, “you know, it’s happened now and I can just concentrate on the football”.

Walcott, to be fair, did open up when pressed a little further on a pretty busy weekend and the embrace with Sanchez at the end was a lovely moment too.

We’d love to see what the reaction would be like when this is given a whirl at Arlo’s 21st birthday in 2037.
