Premier League players caught feigning injury will be hit by this new FA measure

Get up...

Ben Kenyon

Players who pretend to be injured face being banned for the first time this season.

The FA have introduced new measures in a bid to stamp out unwanted histrionics, with the rule changes leading to possible suspensions for players who feign injury in order to get an opponent sent off.

Sadly the plans don’t extend to tricksters who dive to win free-kicks or penalties – but at least amateur dramatics like this could soon be extinct…

For a player to receive a ban for feigning injury, a red card shown to his opponent for violent conduct would have to be rescinded.

If footage used to overturn the decision shows that the player deliberately tried to deceive the match officials, they will face a three-match ban.

Other incidents missed by officials can also be considered by a panel of former referees, who will now judge previously unseen incidents.
