Aldi Christmas advert axes beloved Kevin the Carrot, replaces him with a new character

There’s a new festive fruit in town

Popular supermarket chain Aldi has replaced its ever-popular Kevin The Carrot character from their annual Christmas adverts and replaced the yule-tide loving veg with a new fruity face.

Taking to their Twitter account, Aldi posted a short-but-sweet 20 second video clip ahead of the debut of their full 2021 Christmas advert on Thursday November 11. While Kevin is nowhere to be seen, audiences instead find Ebanana Scrooge, a tiny yellow banana sleeping on a plate next to a mince pie – eager to meet Santa Claus.

However when a familiar white-gloved hand reaches down towards the plate, it chooses the pie over the fruit, stripping poor Ebanana of all his festive spirit.

“Why didn’t he take me?” he cries. “I hate Christmas!”

You can watch the full clip below:

The Aldi team even went the whole hog and suggested that Ebanana was so cross, he’s taken over their entire Twitter account, changing their profile picture and everything. Ebanana must be pretty miffed.

Meanwhile, the chain has remained curiously tight-lipped as to where Kevin The Carrot has disappeared to, joking that they haven’t seen him since Christmas 2020 and that maybe he’s in the same position as Marks & Spencer’s Colin the Caterpillar cake – a poke at the controversy that arose between the two chains back in April 2021 when M&S accused Aldi of copying their cake design.

Fans will have to wait a little longer to discover Kevin’s fate but his fans aren’t too happy at his absence.

“Mmmmmmm, ‘Forget the carrot.’ ??????? You have to be joking! Kevin and his family stole our hearts!” said one user.

“We still love Kevin in this house!!!” added another.

“No way can I forget Kevin” claimed a third.

Kevin The Carrot has become so popular, plush toy versions of him regularly sell out each year. Here’s hoping he makes a grand return.
