Customers received items such as cat food and grills instead of the PS5

Amazon, the online retailer which is owned by the world’s wealthiest man Jeff Bezos, has apologised to a number of customers who ordered the PlayStation 5, only to receive other items instead.

Social media users complained to the company after their hotly anticipated PS5 orders arrived and turned out to be things like cat food, grills and packing tape.

“We’re all about making our customers happy, and that hasn’t happened for a small proportion of these orders,” an Amazon spokesperson told Sky News.

“We’re really sorry about that and are investigating exactly what’s happened.

“We’re reaching out to every customer who’s had a problem and made us aware so we can put it right. Anyone who has had an issue with any order can contact our customer services team for help.”

With lockdown forcing people to remain within their homes during the month of November, the release of next generation consoles like the PS5 and the Xbox Series X has been met with enormous demand.

Across the United Kingdom, retailers have struggled to accommodate this demand, with Sony and Microsoft stating that it will be months before supply is in line with demand.
