My precious!
In terms of recent technical advancements in film, it’s likely that movie lovers will point to things like Bullet Time (The Matrix), films shot entirely on green screen (Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, 300) or 3D (Avatar), but one man that has changed filmmaking is Andy Serkis.
His performance as Gollum was absolutely breathtaking because alongside Peter Jackson and the team at WETA, they helped to create an entirely believable character via motion capture technology.
As we know, the character of Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was complex, villainous, heroic and tragic in equal measure, and Serkis’ award-winning performance as the doomed Hobbit was a major factor in the success of those superb films.
With the highly anticipated War for the Planet of the Apes set to be released very shortly, we’re delighted to see Serkis reprising his role as the world’s most beloved revolutionary, Caesar.
The star of Black Panther, Captain America: Civil War and Star Wars: The Last Jedi was a guest on the Graham Norton Show and after going ape over Matt Reeves’s latest blockbuster, he was then asked to channel his inner Gollum while introducing the musical guest, Alison Moyet.
We love the fact that Serkis still turns his head in the opposite direction in order to communicate with Smeagol.
Plenty of people were absolutely delighted to see the return of the king….of motion capture.
War for the Planet of the Apes can’t come soon enough.
Seeing Andy Serkis do Gollum is surreal! What an actor
