“Billy Connolly, still trying to help others despite being unwell himself”.
It’s not Comic Relief without an appearance from ‘The Big Yin’ and the gifted comedian left audiences in tears last night as he made an emotional appeal to help those who are faced with loss, loneliness and dementia.
In typical self deprecating and hilarious form, Connolly opened his segment by saying “Hello, Billy Connolly here asking for your cash. Not for me obviously. I’ve got cancer and Parkinson’s and I definitely need a haircut but no…”
The 74-year-old then proceeded to tell the stories of Bob, Jo and Margaret before explaining how any donations would help projects across the UK that support people that are in need.
As you may know, the iconic comedian was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013 but he has continued to work and help raise funds for various charities.
Host Dan Walker said it best “there are very few people who can make you laugh and cry at the same time. Billy Connolly is a rare diamond.”
Plenty of people agree.
