Bad news if you use ‘unblockers’ to watch Netflix shows around the world

Ben Kenyon

It was good while it lasted.

If you’re someone who binge watches the best Netflix series, we’re pretty sure you’re probably using tricks to unlock content from different countries.

Sadly not it looks like Netflix is about to crack down on proxies or ‘unblocking’ servers that grant access to shows that are not locally available.

Users will no longer be able to fool Netflix into thinking they are in another territory just to get access to the films and tv shows available.

In a blog post on their website, David Fullagar, Vice President of Content Delivery Architecture explained: “If all of our content were globally available, there wouldn’t be a reason for members to use proxies or ‘unblockers’ to fool our systems into thinking they’re in a different country than they’re actually in.’

The service, with over 70 million subscribers, hopes to make more content globally available, which has been unable to happen as of yet due to licencing restrictions.

‘We look forward to offering all of our content everywhere and to consumers being able to enjoy all of Netflix without using a proxy. That’s the goal we will keep pushing towards.’

In the meantime, we’ll all just have to sit tight and hope it happens quickly for the sake of our binge-watching needs.
