A quiet night on the couch is exactly what we all need today
We’ve had a very busy couple of weekends, haven’t we?
What with all the weather and pints. It’s a bit much really. Now that autumn is properly setting in, it’s dark by 8pm and no one’s hitting up the WhatsApp group with last minute plans for a Saturday pub garden settle in. Put the TV and watch some decent films.
FRIDAY 7 SEPTEMBER
The Fast And The Furious – ITV2 – 9.00pm
Considering the later movies involved nuclear submarines, sentient cars, and exploding skyscraper chases, it is quaint to go back and watch the original, which was about stealing DVD players and underground street racing.
True Romance – Dave – 9.40pm
Written by Tarantino, directed by the late great Tony Scott, with Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette on the run with a bag of cocaine and wanted for murder. Also features Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper, all giving some career best performances.
Gone Girl – Film 4 – 11.05pm
David Fincher’s brilliant adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s hugely successful novel about a couple who discover not only do they not love each other anymore, but one of them might actually be a bit of a sociopath, is one of the most darkly funny films of recent years. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike are both brilliant in their roles.
Spring Breakers – Film 4- 1.05am
Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine play four teenagers who rob a diner to get money up so they can go on spring break. They’re soon arrested, and then bailed out by James Franco (playing a gun-toting pimp called Alien), and they decide to join him for a life of crime.
