Director Bryan Singer has shot down sexual misconduct allegations against Kevin Spacey on The Usual Suspect set, causing production on the 1995 movie to be halted.
Speaking with the Sunday Times earlier this month, Gabriel Byrne, a co-star of Spacey’s in the film, mentioned that production on the film did temporarily shut down for two days. It was later discovered that this was due to accusations of Spacey’s sexually inappropriate behaviour towards a young actor on set.
Singer, the film’s director, has since come forward to say that he finds these accusations ”baffling.” Speaking to TMZ, Singer said: “It baffles me. I’ll ask (Gabriel) when I see him, and I do run into him quite often.”Singer also mentioned his ongoing friendship with the actor: “He’s a guy that I helped launch his career,” he explained. “He’s an acquaintance of mine, and it depends on the project I guess.”
This is not the first accusation made against Spacey. In fact, the veteran actor is currently at the centre of multiple accusations of sexual misconduct, with Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp the first of many to come forward with an allegation.
Singer was recently fired from the new Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, following reports of clashing with the film’s star, Rami Malek. The director is also facing sexual misconduct allegations of his own, denying just this week new accusations he raped a 17-year-old.
