"The people deserve to have her."

Shortly before her untimely death at the end of 2016, Carrie Fisher made a triumphant return to the big screen in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Fisher reprised the iconic role of General Leia Organa, and had also finished filming scenes for the franchise’s eighth instalment The Last Jedi before her death.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Carrie’s brother Todd has revealed that the family has given permission for Star Wars to use recent footage of Fisher to enable them to bring Leia into the ninth movie.

Fisher told the New York Daily News that both he and Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd had agreed on whether Star Wars could use footage of the beloved actress: “Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is, you don’t.”

“I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her.” said Fisher. “She’s owned by them.”

Star Wars Episode IX doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s being directed by Colin Trevorrow. Episode VIII will be out later this year.
