Following his success with Summer Heights High and Ja’mie: Private School Girl, he’s been offered a 10-episode series with the streaming service.
Good news for any fans of Aussie comedy, according to Deadline, Chris Lilley is filming a new show from this month to June.
A title is yet to be given to the project, but we do know it will be produced by Lilley and his long-time producing partner Laura Waters. It will run 10 episodes long.
Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of the Queensland territory, announced that the series and said it would generate a $6.35m Aussie dollar boost for the local economy.
“I am delighted to have enticed Chris Lilley and producer Laura Waters to Queensland,” she said. “The series will employ up to 250 Queensland cast and extras, plus around 100 Queensland crew. The project will also support two local screen practitioners, who will have the opportunity to work on the series to further develop their professional skills.”
Although Summer Heights High, We Can Be Heroes and Ja’mie: Private School Girl, were all successful, Lilley’s other projects Angry Boys and Jonah from Tonga have been criticised for containing racist elements.
A number of organisation representing minorities, including the NAACP, Empowering Pacific Islander Communities, and the Asian Pacific American Media Coalition, were unhappy with Jonah from Tonga in particular.
