Rock was performing at a show with Kevin Hart and Dave Chappelle
Chris Rock has finally issued a proper response following the ‘slap heard round the world’ at this year’s Oscars.
When it came to the world of entertainment, March 2022 was pretty much dominated by Will Smith’s shocking decision to slap the award ceremony’s host live on stage after the 57-year-old comedian make a joke about his wife’s shaved head.
Now, while Rock has made a couple of passing jokes and comments about the infamous moment – the most recent of which came after fellow comic Dave Chappelle also suffered an assault on stage when he was tackle by a fan – we have never heard him discuss the incident in too much detail. Until now, that is.
Performing a number of shows in New York and New Jersey over the weekend, the stand-up star confessed to a Madison Square Garden crowd on Saturday July 23. According to an eye-witness, Rock said: “Yeah, that s**t hurt, motherf***er — but I shook that s**t off and went to work the next day.”
He then went on to elaborate in a more humorous manner that “anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face,” as per by quotes obtained by US Weekly.
According to the outlet, Rock was performing alongside the aforementioned Chappelle as well as Kevin Hart, the latter of which is said to ended up bringing a live goat on stage and introduced it as “Will Smith“.

The following day, US Magazine reported that Rock is said to have told his audience at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ, “I’m not a victim, mother***er… I don’t go to the hospital for a papercut” during a bit about today’s society being overly sensitive.
Prior to this more direct addressing of the situation, he had previously told fans at his concerts (sales for which shot up significantly following the slap) that he would get around to talking about it in more detail one day, joking: “I’ll get to it eventually — on Netflix”.
As for Smith, the 53-year-old actor hasn’t had too much to say since the incident itself either, only issuing a statement which admitted he was “out of line” and declaring that “violence is poisonous” – a response which left many divided.
