This is everyone’s favourite Cockney as you’ve never seen him before.
Danny Dyer was transformed into a drag queen for a new music video, and his powerful performance deserves to turn a few heads.
The video for singer-songwriter Lucy Rose’s latest single ‘Nebraska’ sees Dyer’s character heading across London to his late-night job.
It explores transgender issues, escapism and freedom of expression in quite beautiful fashion, and it’s obvious that Dyer took the opportunity very seriously.
Speaking to The Independent about the video, Dyer said: “I was honoured to be asked by the maestro that is Lucy Rose to be part of her video. When I got the treatment through I was overwhelmed.
“I think it’s such a moving piece of work. I’m beyond proud to be part of it, I’ve always believed that people should be who they wanna be, regardless of race or gender. Freedom of expression is so important – I really hope that this video gets the recognition it deserves.”
Time will tell if this project marks a departure from the East End hardman typecasting that’s been a prominent feature in much of Dyer’s career to date, but Lucy Rose is certainly a fan.
She told The Independent:Â “Danny has taken a huge risk making this video and I’m eternally grateful to him for believing in me and this song when no-one else did, which allowed us to make this wonderful video.”
