The iconic comedy may return
David Jason wants to go back to work in the role that made him a household name, playing Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses.
The 81-year-old acting icon first played the character 40 years ago in 1981 – and after the show ended in 1991, it continued to run for a series of specials.
Wheeler-dealer Del Boy last returned last summer, when he wished the England football team good luck ahead of the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
Now speaking to the Sun, Jason says: “I’ve always loved Del Boy, who is such a wonderful loser. I would love to revisit him, I need someone to write me a script.”
He added: “As a show, it’s very important we don’t forget about it. It has a huge following, it fills in that need for an awful lot of people.”
John Sullivan who wrote the show passed away in 2014 so there’d need to be a new creative behind any future project.
Sullivan’s two children, Jim and Dan Sullivan, relied on previously unused material when they reprised Only Fools And Horses in 2014 for a special called Beckham in Peckham.
Could either of the Sullivan sons pick up the baton and continue writing for a new edition of the show?
The sitcom, set in Peckham in south-east London, followed market trader Del Boy and his younger brother Rodney, played by Nicholas Lyndhurst, as they attempted to get rich.
Some of the original cast have passed away now, including John Challis who played Boycie and Trigger’s Roger Lloyd Pack, so a reimagining of the show would look quite different.
