The secret to seeing the Xbox Easter egg has been revealed
After almost 20 years since the original Xbox was released, people assumed that there were no secrets left to share.
However, an anonymous developer who worked on Microsoft’s original console told the game website Kotaku that there was a hidden “Easter egg” in the Xbox dashboard that has not been discovered for almost 20 years. We did not see that coming.
The developer explained to Kotaku how to trigger the secret that had previously gone undetected.
“I didn’t really expect it to be found, not unless the source code leaked or somebody reverse-engineered the Dashboard,” the unnamed source told Kotaku.
“Its trigger was the same as the ‘main’ Easter egg so I knew it was possible. I figured somebody would have to leak it for it to be known,” the source added.
Luckily, the source has revealed the steps you need to go through to see the Easter egg on screen.
As explained by Kotaku, you should firstly go into ‘Music’ and insert a CD. A short album will reportedly take less time.
Then, from the Audio CD screen, select ‘copy’, ‘copy’ again and then click ‘New Soundtrack.’
Once you have erased the default title for the soundtrack, you should name the album “Timmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!” without the quotation marks. There should be 26 ys in total.
According to the website, you don’t actually need to count the number of ys, simply fill the field with ys before replacing the final ‘y’ with an ‘!’
Now you just have to sit and wait whilst your Xbox copies the audio files over to its hard drive. It may take a little while.
Once completed, return the the main menu and click ‘Settings’ followed by ‘System Info.’
Next you should see a whole new screen listing members of the ‘Xbox Dashboard Team.’
When asked about his decision to leak the undiscovered Easter egg, the developer told the website: “I decided to share now as it’s been 20 years, and I thought it would be cool if people knew this actually existed.
“I also thought if I didn’t do it now it would never likely happen. It had been so long I couldn’t even remember the trigger! I had to connect the Xbox up and try out several things to be sure.”
According to Seamus Blackley, the designer of the original Xbox, there is another surprise Easter Egg that Xbox fans have not yet discovered.
