Wow.
We can’t even begin to comprehend what the band members of Eagles of Death Metal have been through, but their fortitude and bravery knows no bounds.
On Monday night, December 7, the American rock band did something that was both truly remarkable and utterly routine to them – they walked onto a stage.
Except this was no normal gig. Its venue and timing meant everything. The band joined U2 in front of an ecstatic and dumbfounded crowd of Parisians – less than a month since the Paris attacks of November 13.
Nick Alexander, who was working on the EODM merchandise table, was killed on that terrible night, as of course were many of the group’s loyal fans.
The band was understandably crestfallen and broken by the tragic events. But somehow they have rallied to show the terrorists that their music will not be silenced by murderous zealots.
With huge levels of mental strength and emotional charge, they took to the stage at the end of U2’s concert at the AccorHotels Arena, on Paris’ Boulevard de Bercy.
“They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago and we would like to offer them ours tonight,” said Bono, to thunderous applause.
With huge poignancy and humbling defiance, the Eagles performed an emotional rendition of Patti Smith’s People Have The Power.
Indeed they do.
