June Brown, aka Dot Cotton is a staple of the East End.

Having played the iconic character for over 30 years, June is one of the longest serving cast members on EastEnders.

Now the actress approaches her 90th birthday, she has indicated that she would like to retire. But BBC bosses are apparently having none of it and have offered June an incredible £300,000 for one more year on the soap.

A source told The Mirror:

“They realise June isn’t getting any younger but she has intimated that she wants to carry on in the role as long as she feels able, so that is great news.”

The contract would make her the second highest paid actress on the show after Steve McFadden (who plays Phil Mitchell).

Dot Cotton originally came in for a short-term story line when her son Nick was accused of murder in 1985 but she was so likeable that she remained on screen.

She is currently involved in some major storylines including the closing of her beloved launderette and the rapid deterioration of her eyesight.
