Sir Ian McKellen will guest star in the episode.
A new Family Guy episode set to air next month is apparently going to address Stewie Griffin’s sexuality once and for all according to the show’s executive producer.
Rich Appel, whilst speaking to TV Line, stated that the new episode will see Stewie sit down with his therapist, played by McKellen, for the very first time and answer the unresolved (but heavily assumed) question of his sexual orientation.
The episode will only involve the two characters, similar to the infamous “Brian & Stewie” story which saw the pair locked inside a bank vault.
Appel explains: “It’s a wonderful episode, and Seth’s performance is spectacular. They delve into all sorts of things you would think would come up in a therapy session with a boy like Stewie. When Stewie’s with his therapist, they pretty immediately address questions of sexuality. The episode covers that, and then goes to deeper issues for Stewie.”
There were originally plans for Stewie to come out in 2009, but the story never made it past the scripting stage of production. Talking to Playboy magazine at the time, series creator Seth MacFarlane said it made sense to keep the one-year-old’s sexuality vague, due to him, you know, being a baby.
But he has also tweeted in 2013 that Stewie wasn’t gay, stating that the Family Guy writers “haven’t decided what he is”.

A recurring joke throughout the show’s history, however, has been Stewie’s seemingly endless capacity for innuendo.
Like the time he went to the carnival.

Perhaps due to the more heartfelt subject matter the episode will be presented with minimal commercial interruption and will air on the 11th of March.
