A Quiet Place 2 has been confirmed for a 2020 release date

A Quiet Place has been the year’s breakout horror hit

2018 has already given us a few notable horror films, including Hereditary and Ghost Stories, and we’ve still got Suspiria and Halloween to come. But it is probably not too early to say that A Quiet Place is the year’s defining scary movie.

Directed by and starring The US Office star John Krasinski, alongside his real-life wife Emily Blunt, it has a brilliantly simple set-up: A family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. Make a noise and die.

Not only does it deliver unbearable levels of tension, it has even done the unthinkable and gotten modern cinema audiences to shut up. The reliance on silence in the film has left moviegoers scared to even munch on popcorn, in the fear that the sound of their teeth crunching could ruin the atmosphere.

It has been a critical and commercial smash (making over $300 million on a budget of just $17m), and writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck have mentioned their plans for a sequel.

And now it seems to be happening – Paramount have confirmed a May 15th, 2020 release date for the sequel.

John Krasinski is set to be involved, though we don’t know in what role yet.

When asked about a potential follow-up by Fandango, writers Woods and Beck said: “It’s such a fun world. There are so many things you could do. There are so many discarded set pieces, too, just hiding out on Word documents on our computer. So, yeah, there are certainly so many stories you could tell. It’s just really, at the end of the day, who are the characters in this and what does this situation mean to that dynamic?”
