Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is going to appear in Spider-Man 3

It looks like we’ve got a Spider-Verse brewing

Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus is going to appear in the third Tom Holland Spider-Man film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Molina played the eight-armed foe in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, where Spidey was played Tobey Maguire. That was of course in a completely separate continuity to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It has been heavily rumoured that the third MCU Spider-Man film will feature some sort of cross-over with the previous Spidey film timelines.

There have been many reports that Jamie Foxx is due to reprise his role as Electro from the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man films.

Spider-Man: Far From Home ended with an appearance from the great  J K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson – a role he played in that original Tobey Maguire trilogy.

The Hollywood Reporter is also suggesting that three different Spider-Men could appear in the film.

Jamie Foxx also hinted at that in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Tobey Maguire started in the first trilogy of Spider-Man films, which ran from 2002 to 2007. Directed by Sam Raimi, they also starred Kirsten Dunst, James Franco and Willem Dafoe.

Those were followed by the Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

A third live-action Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, was introduced into the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. He has since had two solo films, Homecoming and Far From Home, as well as being a big part of Avengers: Infinity War.
