This could be very cool
Despite being deemed a flop on its first release Blade Runner is now acknowledged as one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time.
Last year, three and a half decades after it first cinemas, we finally got a sequel in the shape Blade Runner 2049.
And shockingly, it was really pretty good. It’s languid pace, long runtime and melancholic themes turned off a lot of cinema-goers who were expecting a mainstream action sci-fi, but it really rewards you if you put the effort in.
With that in mind, we are excited to here that an animated spin-off is in the works.
Variety is reporting that Adult Swim and anime streaming service Cruncyroll are teaming up to produce a thirteen episode show based on the movie.
Entitled Blade Runner-Black Lotus, it will be set in 2032, between the two movies.
There are no other plot details, but it is interesting that they are saying that is based on Blade Runner 2049, and not the original movie, or Phillip K Dick’s original book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
It is not the first animation to be spun off from the film though – ahead of 2049‘s release, an anime short by Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe.
