Trejo claims that a water balloon was launched from the side of the street towards his vehicle, but footage captured by passers-by only revealed the moment the 80-year-old got out of his car, walked over to where the missile was thrown from and started swinging punches at the suspected culprit.
A couple of seconds later, Trejo can be seen falling to the ground after the other guy lands a left-hook to his face. Then, Castillo dives in to defend the Spy Kids star.
When Trejo gets back up, he grabs a chair and launches it towards the ensuing melee, and chaos erupts.
After a few minutes, Trejo and his friends appear to retreat, before another water balloon flies through the air and connects with the Hollywood star.
An infuriated Trejo is then held back by members of his posse as he desperately tries to swing fists again.
A short while later, police arrived to investigate what happened and bring order back to the Independence Day festivities.

Trejo, who has appeared in Con Air, Desperado and Heat, spoke to TMZ the following day and gave his account of what sparked the altercation.
The Los Angeles native claimed that he and his friend had been targeted because they were Mexican, and said he panicked when he seemingly heard somebody yell that the balloon contained “acid.”
“I’m so sad, by the way I behaved, so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day,” Trejo told the outlet. “I don’t think I would’ve gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled ‘it’s acid.’ That’s when I panicked,” he said.
Castillo, who posed for pictures showcasing his bruised right eye and swollen arms, told the media outlet: “It was targeted, because there was no one else being hit by balloons in front of us or behind us.
“There were like eight, nine, ten people around this car when they threw that balloon, so somebody wasn’t worried that they weren’t gonna hit anybody else,” he added.
Trejo joked: “They couldn’t hurt me, it was sad, I would be embarrassed if I attacked an 80-year-old man and he’s still talking and laughing.”
The actor’s short fuse could be attributed to the loss he suffered last week.
He posted a photograph on Instagram holding his Chihuahua, along with the caption: “Hold your babies tight for me please. Today I lost my little Dixie Wixie.”
