Film4 has announced they are showing a big Arnold Schwarzenegger season of films at the start of November.

Honestly, with everything going on right now, it seems like not a bad idea to go back to a time where all you needed for a hit movie was a giant Austrian dude holding a ridiculously big gun that was meant to go on the wing of a fighter plane like it was a super soaker. And maybe have him say a cheesy one-liner every now and then.

So far four films have been announced. It kicks off with Commando on November 5th.

Commando is not the ‘best’ film Arnold ever appeared in, but it is maybe the most pure Arnie movie of all time. A ridiculously basic plot – Arnie’s daughter is kidnapped and he has to kill a load of dudes to get her back – is just an excuse for Schwarzenegger to plow through waves and waves of faceless army goons while spouting the corniest one-liners. Add in a great villian – Vernon Wells rocking chainmail and a Freddie Mercury mustache – and some memorable sub-bosses under him, and you have one of the most purely enjoyable action movies of the 1980s.

That is followed on November 6th by Red Heat, a lesser-but-still-enjoyable Arnie film, where he plays a Russian police officer who has to team with James Belushi’s Chicago cop.

The next day on the 7th it is Last Action Hero – a film that was an infamous flop on its first release, but is now acknowledged as a very fun spoof on action movie tropes. Plus Danny DeVito plays a talking cat.

Then on November 8th is True Lies, Arnold’s last collaboration (to date) with James Cameron.

That is all that has been announced so far – by Film4 promise there will be “plenty more” films added soon.
