A fourth The Matrix film is in the works, says John Wick director

Wil Jones

The Matrix is recognised as an all-time action classic

It melded together influences as wide-ranging as Jet Li movies, anime, cyberpunk and classical philosophy to create something wild and unique and incredibly influential. How many of you bought a long trenchcoat as a teen, thinking it made you look like Keanu Reeves (but really you looked like a massive dork)? How many action movies still today have some move out of the way of stuff in balletic slow-mo?

The Matrix sequels, however? They are far less loved. Reloaded at least had that incredible freeway chase, where they actually built 1.5 miles of road to film it on. But Revolutions? No one had a clue what was going on in that film.

Outside of a few video games, that has been it for the franchise. Until now, as John Wick director Chad Stahelski has revealed in an interview that the Wachowskis are working on a fourth movie.

“I’m super happy that the Wachowskis are not just doing a Matrix, but they’re expanding what we all loved,” Stahelski said in an interview with Yahoo Movies UK to promote John Wick 3. “And if it’s anywhere near the level of what they’ve already done, it wouldn’t take more than a call to go, ‘Hey, we want you to be a stunt guy’ and I would probably go and get hit by a car.”

Stahelski continued to say that he wasn’t sure if the Wachowskis were definitely going to direct themselves, but that they were definitely involved.

In case you were wondering why Stahelski would have this information, the former stuntman actually met Keanu Reeves on the set of The Matrix, where he was Neo’s stunt double. The meeting led to a long and fruitful collaboration, and Stahelski credits the Wachowskis as a massive influence on his work.
