The Green Goblin and The Sandman both originally fought Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man
It looks like even more characters from previous Spider-Man movies are going to be appearing in the next MCU Spidey film.
It has now been reported that Willem Dafoe and Thomas Haden Church, who played The Green Goblin and The Sandman respectively, are being sought to appear in the film.
The Green Goblin was the villain in 2002’s Spider-Man, and The Sandman appeared in 207’s Spider-Man. Both those films starred Tobey Maguire.
The report comes from The Illuminerdi, who while not a big site, did previously get the scoop on Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as The Hulk in the upcoming Disney+Â She-Hulk series.
According to the site, both Dafoe and Haden Church have been approached about appearing, but no deals have been finalised so far. There is also no information on how big their roles could be in the film – these could just be small cameo appearances as opposed to full villainous roles for The Green Goblin and The Sandman.
While very little has been made official yet, it looks like the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to feature the return of multiple previous Spider-Men and their supporting casts.
Tom Holland, the current Marvel Cinematic Universe Spidey, will reportedly be joined by both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in the third MCU Spidey film. According to Collider, Garfield is all signed on, while Maguire is still in talks.
Collider say that Kirsten Dunst is also to return as Mary Jane, and Emma Stone is expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, pregnancy permitting.
There have been many reports that Jamie Foxx is due to reprise his role as Electro from the Amazing Spider-Man films. And last week the story broke that Alfred Molina would return as Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2.
Hopefully, they can also find a way to let the 1970s TV Spidey Nicholas Hammond and Japanese Spider-Man appear as well.
