‘As a soon-to-be firefighter, I find it very offensive.’
A petition has been set up to remove some scenes from the new Halloween sequel which shows firefighters being killed.
The latest instalment of the Halloween franchise, Halloween Kills, is due out on Friday October 15 and sees infamous killer Michael Myers return to the big screen alongside Jamie Lee Curtis’ iconic Laurie Strode who tries to end his murderous spree once and for all.
If the trailer is anything to go by, it doesn’t look like the new film is going to break from the franchise tradition of gruesome violence and gore – but for some, the scenes go too far.
A “soon-to-be” firefighter has now created a petition titled ‘Remove The Slaughtering of firefighters from Halloween Kills movie’ in which they describe the deaths as “wrong.”
In the petition, Jesse Streeter says that the scene is: “wrong because firefighters have been lured to house fires and murdered by the person who set the fire. And it’s wrong that Michael killed the firefighters with the gear from the other firefighters he killed.”
He continues: “As a soon to be firefighter I find it very offensive and so does my mom and dad who are retired firefighters. So I want that scene taken out of the movie.”
The person goes as far to say that Myers should have: “saved the two firefighters in the house,” a move that would be somewhat out-of-character for one of cinema’s most notorious and violent villains.
So far, the petition has amassed 190 signatures and seems to have gathered more backlash than support, with fans of the movies pointing out that violent murder is exactly what the films are about.
A second petition called ‘Stop the petition to remove the slaughtering of firefighters in Halloween Kills 2021’ has now been set up, which argues that: “Almost every person murdered in every horror movie ever had an occupation” and “literally nobody is being hurt in the making of this movie.”
This responding petition has received much more support, gathering 1.108 signatures at the time of writing.
