Not the best weekend, weather-wise
Although next weekend looks pretty good.
Two sun-kissed weekends in relatively quick succession? We’ll take it.
We’ll also take the lion’s share of what Sunday (28 April) has to offer on the ‘movies on TV’ front.
So let’s get to it…
Captain America: The First Avenger – Film 4 – 6.35pm
The most well-realised character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his first adventure.
Winter Soldier might be the better film, but the closing cut to credits here is up there with the most impressive achievements in all of the MCU.
The Wolf of Wall Street – Film 4 – 9pm
One of the more divisive films in the DiCaprio canon.
You either think this one is sheer twisted comic genius, or the most repulsive and repugnant story of recent years. There is no in-between.
Casino Royale – ITV2 – 9pm
Daniel Craig plays 007 for the first, and arguably best, time.
Street Fighter – SyFy – 9pm
Completely bonkers adaptation of Capcom’s classic arcade game, boasting Raul Julia’s terrific performance and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s terrible accent (Guile is supposed to be American, last time we checked) among other wild things..
Carlito’s Way – ITV4 – 10pm
An increasingly tired Al Pacino tries to escape the gangster life.
Mean Girls – Comedy Central – 11pm
Smart, sharp, and endlessly re-watchable and quotable modern classic from the pen of Tina Fey.
Blazing Saddles – TCM – 11.40pm
Vintage Western spoof.
The Killing – Film 4 – 2.20am
If you’re still awake in the very early hours of Monday morning and not watching Game of Thrones, then you ought to check out this early Stanley Kubrick gem.
