“You sit on a throne of lies”
There are many Christmas films that you can argue are the ultimate festive classic. But we here to put forward that case that the true answer is the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy Elf.
Ok, we’re not actually going to do it. We’ve got a special guest in: superstar comedian Jason Manford.
“Elf is the last great Christmas movie, there's not really been a great Christmas film since.”@JasonManford explains why Elf is a modern Christmas classic. pic.twitter.com/T0rmFTtp9q

Elf was first released 2003. It quickly became a Christmas classic, as film fans fell in love with Will Ferrell as Buddy, the human raised at the North Pole who think’s he is one of Santa’s elves.
In 2010, it was spun off into a Broadway musical, with Sebastian Arcelus taking the role of Buddy. The stage show would later transfer to the West End in 2015, with Girls Aloud’s Kimberly Walsh in the cast.
That musical would also be adapted into a 2014 stop-motion animated special for NBC entitled Buddy’s Musical Christmas, with Jim Parsons, Mark Hamill and Kate Micucci all providing voices.
But it is the original movie that remains the true festive staple. Every year families settle down for their traditional watch of the film, with phrases like”You sit on a throne of lies,” and “Santa! I know him!” becoming part of the Christmas lexicon.
Director Jon Favreau has occasionally spoken about making a second movie continuing Buddy’s adventures, but so far nothing has come together.
Jason was speaking on behalf of Sky Cinema, who has launched a competition to celebrate Elf coming to Sky Cinema on 8th December.
