Has to be better than Man of Steel, anyway…
Brightburn represents something of a shot at redemption for James Gunn, who was famously ousted from his Guardians of the Galaxy series when controversial old tweets surfaced and Disney opted to part ways.
Gunn has received a tremendous amount of support from fans, critics and pretty much the entirety of the Guardians cast – Dave Bautista, in particular, seems to be on a mission to get fired in solidarity – and there’s even talk that he’s going to make the move to the DCEU and helm Suicide Squad 2.
The filmmaker may not be the one directing Brightburn, but his name, prints, relatives (his brother and cousin are on script duties) regular collaborators and status as producer are all over it.
The new horror essentially presents a, ‘What if Superman, but evil?‘ scenario as a farm-based couple adopt a child who arrives from the stars.
Only except for wanting to protect and save the world, he may instead wish to burn it all down.
