DCI John Luther is back.
Netflix has confirmed that Idris Elba will be starring as John Luther once more, in a brand new feature film featuring Andy Serkis and Cynthia Erivo.
In a post on Facebook, the streaming service confirmed the news, writing: “Luther is coming back!
“Idris Elba will reprise his iconic role — joined by Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis — in a new feature film written by series creator Neil Cross.”
It will be the first time that Elba has starred as the gritty detective since 2019, when the television show aired its fifth series on the BBC.

And fans are predictably buzzing with the news, with one person commenting that it was “the best news.”
Many were speculating as to whether Ruth Wilson would be returning as Luther’s nemesis and love interest as well.
On Twitter, one person wrote: “Love this! But will Ruth be there too?? Can’t imagine Luther without Alice”
Another asked: “But will there be a part for Ruth Wilson?”

Rumours of a new series or film have swirling ever since the end of the last series in 2019.
Earlier this year, the 49-year-old confirmed that a Luther film would be going into production in September, saying that he was “excited” about the project.
Speaking to Variety, he said: “We go into production, fingers crossed, in September.
“I’m so excited about it, it’s been a long time coming.
“We’re very, very close to pulling the green light on production.”
As of yet there is no release date for the film, but of you want your fix of dark detective drama then all five of the series are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
