As a duo, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost have proved a winning formula for unique comedic takes on genre movies
Along with director Edgar Wright, the pair starred in the now-classic ‘Cornetto trilogy’ of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End (and before that, the groundbreaking Channel 4 sitcom Spaced).
Then, when Wright went off to do Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost also wrote and starred in the underrated comedy Paul, alongside a CGI alien voiced by Seth Rogen.
Now, Deadline has revealed that Pegg and Frost have sold a new horror movie named Svalta to Orion Pictures.
According to Deadline, the film “follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote Swedish island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose, but the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family of tourists.”
Svalta is apparently the name of the Scandinavian island where the film is set.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will produce the film, with Frost penning the script along with James Serafinowicz and Nat Saunders (the creative directors of Pegg and Frost’s Stolen Pictures company).
There is no word yet on whether it is a comedic take on the idea or a straight horror film, but based Pegg and Frost’s involvement, you would expect at least a few laughs.
“Orion is the perfect home for the horrifying vision that Nick has conjured up from his maverick brain,” said Miles Ketley of Stolen Picture, who will also produce.
“We are unbelievably excited to be partnering with Simon, Nick and Miles on Svalta,” added Orion Pictures President John Hegeman “The story is scary, awesome and crazy, and their unique voice is perfect for this movie. We can’t wait to bring this to the big screen with them.”
