Simon Pegg shared his idea for a Hot Fuzz sequel, and it sounds great

Wil Jones

“Have you ever fired your gun up in the air and gone ‘arrrrhhrgh’?”

Hot Fuzz is great. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright’s love-letter to buddy cop movies in general, and Bad Boys and Point Break in particular, is wild, crazy, and breathlessly funny. It is full of nods to classic action films, but has car chases and shoot-outs as genuinely exciting any of the films they are parodying.

Plus, the swan gets me every time.

Pegg and Wright may have closed out their ‘Cornetto Trilogy’ with The World’s End, but Hot Fuzz has remained a staple of British pop culture. It is still beloved today (pretty sure it is part of UK law that it has to be shown on ITV2 at least three times a month), and a sequel would be a very welcome proposition should they ever decide to make one.

Pegg has currently been doing press for Mission Impossible: Fallout, and he appeared on Larry King Now, taking questions from the audience. One listener asked him to come up for a sequel idea for any of the three Cornetto films, and Pegg replied saying that he thought only Hot Fuzz could really lend itself to a follow-up. And his idea sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

Because Hot Fuzz was about my character going to the countryside to be a cop in a small town, it would have to be about my character Nicholas Angel taking Nick Frost’s character Danny to the big city. Like Crocodile Dundee 2 was.

First up, well done for referencing Crocodile Dundee 2, Simon.

But yeah, that would be great – a role reversal of the fish-out-of-water set-up of the original (that’s also the jist of Rush Hour 2 as well). Nick Frost’s Danny being an idiot tourist and then a big chase along the Thames like The World Is Not Enough? Sign us up.
