The Day Shall Come: new Chris Morris film announced

Kyle Picknell

The Day Today and Brass Eye creator last brought us Four Lions in 2010

Chris Morris, who you will no doubt recognise as the slicked-back presenter of The Day Today, or even as the angry farmer in one of the very best Alan Partridge scenes of all time, is returning with his second feature film entitled The Day Shall Come.

Known for his dark satirical stylings, the new feature is set to focus on another terrorism-related incident as he did with 2010’s hugely popular Four Lions, as reported by Chortle. The film will was co-written with Peep Show writer and co-creator Jesse Armstrong, who also wrote for The Thick of It.

The movie will star Anna Kendrick as an FBI officer (Pitch Perfect), Danielle Brooks (Orange Is The New Black) and Denis O’Hare (True Blood) and is set in Miami in 2013. Marchánt Davis will play the lead role as Moses, pictured below in the first shot released from the film.

It will tell the story of a preacher named Moses who is short on money. A stranger offers him the cash to save his family from being evicted from their, but Moses doesn’t know that his mysterious sponsor works for the FBI and is hoping to turn him into a criminal by ‘fueling his madcap revolutionary dreams’.

As iNews reports, there are parallels to Malcolm X in the film. Moses’ full name is Moses Al Bey Al Shabazz and Shabazz was the surname taken by Malcolm X and his family once he rejected the Nation of Islam, an African-American political and religious movement.

The website also notes that Malcolm Latif Shabazz, who was Malcolm X’s grandson, was a spokesperson for Islamic and African-American causes in Miami before he was killed in 2013 under mysterious circumstances that were linked to the FBI.

A cinema release date has not been confirmed for the film but it will premiere at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas in March this year.
