Could we have our next 007?
Betting has been suspended on Tom Hardy being cast as the next James Bond.
As reported by the Evening Standard, odds were slashed from 6/1 to 1/1 on the former Bane and Mad Max taking over from Daniel Craig, and have now been suspended.
Rumours about Tom Hardy being favourite for the role have been circling for a while.
Other actors getting low odds from the bookies before betting was stopped included James Norton Idris Elba, Sam Heughan and Richard Madden.
“For years we’ve heard speculation about who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, and finally it seems that English heart-throb Tom Hardy is the man for the role,” said Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson.
“The versatile Hardy would certainly be a popular choice – and attracted 54 percent of all bets in the 24 hours before the market was suspended.”
The upcoming No Time To Die is set to be Daniel Craig’s last appearance as James Bond. The movie was originally scheduled to be released in April of this year, but has been put back to November 12th due to the coronavirus pandemic. And that date is now in doubt as other big movies are being postponed until 2021.
Daniel Craig first appeared as Bond in 2006’s Casino Royale, and went on to star in Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.
Tom Hardy’s varied career definitely has shown he would have the chops for the role. The London-born actor proved that he rock a stylish suit when he played both Kray twins in Legend, and is no stranger to franchise filmmaking, having appeared in both The Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road.
He also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, which felt much like a Roger Moore-era Bond movie, what with its globe-trotting action scenes and its big snow-based set-piece.
