Game of Thrones fans think they’ve figured out the identity of a new character

Paul Moore

This could be very special.

At this moment, we’re going to recite our house words and say ‘Spoilers are Coming.’

Not quite as catchy as ‘Ours is the Fury’ or ‘Winter is Coming,’ but you get the idea.

As Daenerys and Jon Snow get closer in the caves of Dragonstone, it appears that the history of ‘familial’ relationships in House Targaryen looks set to continue.

You can always rely on Jon Snow to deliver the goods in a cave!

As you may know, HBO have confirmed the lineage of Jon Snow – his mother is Lyanna Stark (Ned’s sister) and his father is Rhaegar Targaryen (Dany’s older brother).

In fact, we’ve already seen snippets of Jon embracing his Targaryen heritage with these two lovely moments that echoed his father’s nature.

In the aftermath of the recent HBO hack, various information about the show has been leaked online and it appears that an actor by the name of Wilf Scolding has been listed as playing Rhaegar.

In case you need a reminder, Rhaegar was killed by Robert Baratheon before the events of Game of Thrones began. Robert was destined to marry Lyanna Stark and believed that Rheagar had kidnapped his bride-to-be. After attending a jousting tournament, Rhaegar  fell for Lyanna and the impact of that is still being felt in Westeros because at the time, Rhaegar  was married to Elia Martell, and had two children with her: Aegon and Rhaeneys.

After The Mad King was killed, both of these children were murdered by The Mountain under the orders of Tywin Lannister.

Throughout the show, we’re led to believe that Rhaegar not only kidnapped Ned’s sister, but he kept her hidden and locked away at The Tower of Joy.

We already saw that at the end of Season 6 in the scene where she gives birth to Jon Snow.

While Robert Baratheon has portrayed The Mad King’s eldest son as a violent rapist and abductor, Ser Barristan Selmy –  the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard of Robert Baratheon – has described Rhaegar as the “the finest man I  ever met.”

In the books, we’re told that he’s tall, handsome and has dark eyes.

In fact, Cersei Lannister was strongly attracted to him after they first met. Here’s what the actor looks like when compared to the character.

When its this cold, you should probably jump in a river somewhere #wildswim #naturalwater

Regarding the reports that Wilf Scolding will be playing Rhaegar, there’s further proof to support this.

Scolding follows the official Game of Thrones account on Twitter along with the following stars of the show; Sophie Reid (Tyrell lady), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy), Aisling Franciosi (Lyanna Stark), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos).

The fact that Aisling Franciosi (Lyanna Stark) also follows him back on Twitter is very interesting – especially since she hasn’t done many scenes in the show.

To quote Maester Aemon “a Targaryen… alone in the world… is a terrible thing” but that might change because it seems very likely that we’ll be getting a flashback of Daenerys Targaryen’s older brother at some point in the coming weeks.

We even get a tantalising glimpse of Jon potentially embracing his dragon blood in the latest episode.
