Had your holiday and hanging around town? Here are JOE’s top 5 events

August can be referred to as ‘silly season’ when it comes to things to do.

With most of the decent festivals over until September and all the best gigs happening abroad, you have to go searching for the gems, but they are out there.

Here are five we’re flagging for the rest of the week.

What: London Craft Beer Festival 2015

Who: Public Service Broadcasting, The Cuban Brothers, DJ Yoda, Ghostpoet, Artful Dodger, SpectraSoul and singer Jetta perform at four day beer and brewery festival celebrating the best of craft beer.

When: Thursday – Sunday, August 13-16

Where: Oval Space, 29-32 The Oval, Bethnal Green, London

What: Dornik

Who: Hailing from Croydon, Dornik was Jessie Ware’s drummer until her label signed him up. Now he’s showcasing his own slinky Michael Jackson-esque vocals and material. He’s one to watch so get in there early.

Where: Brixton Jamm, Brixton, London

When: Thursday, August 13 at 7pm

What: Trainwreck

Who: Judd Apatow directs this comedy about a commitment-phobic career woman, played by Amy Schumer, who is forced to face her fears about monogomy when she meets a good guy.

Where: Across UK cinemas

When: From Friday

NB: If Trainwreck is sold out, Guy Ritchie’s Man from U.N.C.L.E, starring Henry Cavill, Elizabeth Debicki, and Alicia Vikander is out Friday too. It’ll be worth checking out, with David Beckham making his film debut.

What: Spotlight Festival

Who: Free music, arts, comedy and theatrical performances – plus discounted food and drink. Roads will be pedestrianised and covered in a pop-up lawn and deckchairs.

Where: Seven dials, Earlham St, WC2H 9LA London.

When: Saturday, August 15, from noon
