Our Umbridge PTSD has still not subsided…
The original cast of the Harry Potter film franchise are set to reunite for a TV special in celebration of the boy wizard’s 20th anniversary this year.
Streaming platform HBO Max said the return to Hogwarts will be released on January 1 2022. They announced the news on November 16 – the 20-year anniversary of director Chris Columbus’ franchise starter Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson – who played Harry, Ron and Hermione respectively – will join Columbus to explore the film that started it all.
At the time of writing, it does not appear that author and Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling will be returning.
HBO Max said that fans will be invited “on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time”.
The short snippet, which came in at 52 seconds, gave us a glimpse at some of the other monumental names to make appearances. These include Helena Bonham Carter who played Bellatrix Lestrange, the Dark Lord himself Ralph Fiennes who played Voldomort, Lucius Malfoy actor Jason Isaacs and Tom Felton, who depicted Draco Malfoy.
Oh – and the incomparable Imelda Staunton also made an appearance and the nation undoubtedly took one giant cohesive nervous gulp thanks to her infamous portrayal of sadistic teacher Professor Umbridge.
