Barrowman is accused of “repeatedly exposing himself”
Actor, singer and TV personality John Barrowman has reportedly been dropped by Dancing on Ice over claims of “inappropriate behaviour” dating back as far as 2001.
As per a number of reports, allegations surfaced regarding incidents where Barrowman repeatedly exposed himself on the set of BBC’s Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood. According to two runners on the set, he “would get his genitals out on a regular basis”.
In his apology, he called it “high-spirited behaviour and tomfoolery”. A clip from a convention back in 2015 saw Noel Clarke and other members of the cast and crew confirming this. Clarke himself has recently been embroiled in controversy over sexual harassment claims.
This is not the first claim to be made against Barrowman: in 2008, he apologised for exposing himself during a live show on BBC Radio 1 back in 2001. He told The Guardian: “With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behaviour and I have apologised for this previously”.
The 54-year-old went on to say that, “Since my apology in November 2008, my understanding and behaviour have also changed.”
However, it is rumoured that ITV are set to cut him from the show’s judging panel over concerns around sexual misconduct and the family-friendly nature of the show.
An ITV spokesperson has denied this, stating that any discussions surrounding the termination of his contract has been had, stating that such engagements for Dancing on Ice are not dealt with until much later in the year. They said that “[t]his is factually incorrect and “[a]s ITV has verified, no decision has been made”. Barrowman’s agent also came out to rubbish said reports.
