“It’s like something Trump would do.”
Earlier this week, news emerged that Jason Reitman (Juno, Thank You For Smoking) would be directing a new Ghostbusters film that will act as a spiritual sequel to Ghostbusters 2.
Of course, Reitman’s father, Ivan, was the director of the first two Ghostbusters films.
Essentially, this new film will ignore Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot which launched a female-led version of the Ghostbusters.
Comedian Leslie Jones played Patty Tolan in Feig’s reboot and she has been extremely critical of Reitman’s upcoming film.
The SNL comedian took to Twitter to say: “So insulting. Like fuck us. We didn’t count. It’s like something Trump would do. (Trump voice) “Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give fuck I’m saying something!!”
Jones tagged her reboot co-star Melissa McCarthy in the post, as well as Jason Reitman himself.
A few days ago, Reitman basically confirmed that the female characters from Feig’s version (Patty, Abby, Erin, and Holtzmann) will not be returning in his new film.
He said: “I have so much respect for what Paul [Feig] created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film,” said Reitman.
After the female-led version of Ghostbusters was released, Jones was forced to leave Twitter after she received a swathe of disgusting racist abuse.
The new Ghostbusters film is set for release in 2020.
