The release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story might just be days away, but excitement is already building about the next numbered instalment of the franchise.
Episode VIII is due to hit UK cinemas in December 2017, two years almost to the day after The Force Awakens, but it doesn’t have a full title yet – or does it?
As reported by AVSForum, production company Lucasfilm has been filing a substantial number of trademark applications around a certain phrase.
And if you want to avoid potential spoilers – or things which probably aren’t spoilers but could be interpreted as spoilers if you’re the type of person who likes to overthink a series of words – consider this your warning.

AVSForum has found Lucasfilm’s EU trademark application for the phrase ‘Star Wars Forces of Destiny’, in both English and German.
The application carries a lengthy list of products covered, from DVDs and video game discs through to luggage tags, chalk for billiard cues and even confetti.
Of course, it could just be a decoy, aimed to distract fans from a separate application which Lucasfilm intend to file when no one’s looking. After all, Disney are certainly going to great lengths to avoid any secrets coming to light before everyone is ready.
Star Wars Episode VIII –Â which may or may not be called ‘Forces of Destiny’ – is currently slated to be released on December 15, 2017.
