Spoilers are coming
We have less than two weeks to wait until the return of Game of Thrones. Almost two years after season 7, it’s back. And with the return of any popular TV series comes spoilers.
Usually spoilers don’t start to spread until the show actually airs, but Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, accidentally let one slip on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night. Well, kind of.
Jimmy Fallon, as all talk show hosts do, was pushing Williams for any sort of plot revelations that she could disclose. “Just a crumb,” of information, he was asking for. But he got a whole loaf.
“I’ve decided to just keep a tight lip on everything,” Williams said. “HBO have sent out a lot of memos recently about just saying nothing, so there’s nothing I could say, they would absolutely kill me.”
Williams then went on to drop a bombshell.
“During shooting, the final days were really emotional, saying goodbye to all of the cast,” she said.
“When I found out that Arya died in the second episode-” she revealed before stopping herself, gobsmacked by her own clumsiness.
An extended period of awkward silence followed, with everyone in the rom unsure as to whether she was joking or not. In fairness, she did a great job of maintaining the suspense, but you’d expect nothing less from a professional actress.
It was of course a faux spoiler, as was revealed after she ran off stage, only to shout ‘APRIL FOOLS’ with Fallon, who burst into laughter claiming to have ‘got you guys so bad’.
The real April Fools joke would be if Arya Stark does indeed die in season eight, then they really will have got us. But let’s not even joke about that. I’ve got my heart set on her sitting on that iron throne.
