Yet more wholesome content only, this time, with a budget
Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton, the pair of Thanksgiving strangers brought together over a mistaken text, are set to be the subject of a new Netflix film.
The original story which broke back in 2016 resurfaced once again this year as the unlikely friends spent their sixth holiday together and it reminded people of just how lovely the whole thing was. So much so, in fact, that it’s no being turned into a full-on feature film.
In an exclusive with Variety, the film entitled, The Thanksgiving Text, is set to be written by Abdul Williams, known for working on scripts such as Salt-N-Pepa and The Bobby Brown Story biopics. The plans were confirmed by Jamal himself.

While Netflix studios have not yet announced a director or hinted at anyone who might be cast, Robert Teitel and George Tillman, Jr. of State Street Pictures, (The Hate U Give, Barbershop, Men of Honor) and Lawrence Mott are set to be producers.
Although the true story was already strong enough material, recent developments have meant that this project is likely going to have an even more emotional throughline than ever.
Last year’s reunion was somewhat hampered by the pandemic but the two still managed to meet up for a small holiday get-together, however, Wanda’s husband Lonnie had sadly passed away from Covid. Moreover, Thanksgiving 2021 was not only the sixth anniversary of their meeting but also the first year they had spent it without him.
