Warning: spoilers ahead
A lot of viewers have been missing a post-credits scene for Don’t Look Up, after the new comedy science fiction film dropped on Netflix over Christmas.
The star-studded film sees Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence star as two astronomers who try to warn the world about an approaching comet that will destroy the Earth, in a not-so-subtle metaphor for the current climate crisis in the real world.
Here come the spoilers.
In a bleak ending, they are unsuccessful in their attempt to get the world to act, and the film ends with them sat round the dinner table with their family as the comet hits the Earth.
This is followed by a post-credits scene showing some of the wealthy who escaped the plant landing on an alien world thousands of years in the future. Most people caught this one.
What most people didn’t notice was the second post-credits scene, featuring Jonah Hill, who plays the president’s son and chief of staff in the film.
His character, Jason Orlean, crawls out of some rubble left behind after the asteroid hit Earth, miraculously surviving the impact.
And the first thing he decides to do as he looks around is get his phone out.
As he does so, he films a video for his social media and can be heard saying: “What’s up y’all, I’m the last man on earth! Don’t forget to like and subscribe!”
Many took to Twitter to warn others to not turn off the film too early and miss either of the scenes.
One wrote: “I only realised I’d missed the credits ending scene on the alien planet this morning.”
Thought Don't Look Up was 30 minutes too long and a bit of a mess. But I quite liked it anyway.
However, I only realised I'd missed the credits ending scene on the alien planet this morning so you may wish to pay more attention to other people's opinions.
