New details emerge about Season 4 of Narcos

Season three only landed last month, but thoughts are already turning to what comes next

For those still to catch up, let’s make this clear from the very start: there may be spoilers ahead…

With season three of Narcos only landing on Netflix last month, thoughts are already turning to what fans of the show can expect from its next series. Seasons one and two centred on the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar’s drug empire in and around the Colombian city of Medellin, with the third season shifting focus to the Cali Cartel.

As is clear from season three’s finale, the Cali Cartel won’t be featuring in future Narcos episodes, with plenty of reports suggesting the show will now be set in Mexico, leaving Colombia entirely.

It appears likely that the Juarez Cartel will be the subject of future episodes. This ties in with a meeting between their head, Amado Carrillo Fuentes, and Cali’s Pacho Herrera in season three.

Speaking during an interview with Heavy (via Daily Express) Pêpê Rapazote, the actor who played Chepe Santacruz Londoño in season three, has all but confirmed that the Juarez Cartel will be the focus of season four. He also  suggested that the show’s producers may even “go back in time” to look at the early days of the Mexican cartels.

As exciting as this news may be for fans of the show, it’s worth reminding ourselves that there are still no guarantees that a fourth season will actually happen. The killing of location scout, Carlos Muñoz Portal, whose body was found with gunshot wounds in a rural area close to Mexico City, is still being investigated.

The 37-year-old’s death prompted Pedro Pascal, who plays DEA agent Javier Peña, to warn that the show couldn’t continue if it posed threats to its cast and crew members.
