Hideo Kojima may have departed the franchise, but the Metal Gear franchise continues to be an off-the-wall adventure.
This week saw Konami announce a brand new game in the Metal Gear canon, and this time things will be getting weird.
Well… weirder than usual. Which is still pretty weird.
Dubbed Metal Gear Survive, the new game looks to be a survival horror game.
As reported by IGN, the new game is set after the events of Metal Gear Solid V and Ground Zeroes, and will see surviving members of mercenary group Militaires Sans Frontières transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they’re forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself.
Told you it’d be weird.
What used to be a stealth action series is now being turned into a zombie game.
That you can play with up to three of your mates.
That’s right, Metal Gear Survive will be built for four-player co-op play from the ground up, hoping to provide a new spin on the Resident Evil-style survival horror genre. A Konami fact sheet refers to the game as ‘survival done the Metal Gear way’.
“Metal Gear Survive will offer a fresh take on the series’ famed stealth elements,” said Konami European president, Tomotada Tashiro in a press release following the Gamescom launch trailer.
“But within a unique co-op setting that is designed for a truly engrossing multiplayer experience.”
The left-turn in Metal Gear’s franchise definitely got people talking…
I'm happy MG Survive is something new, wasn't looking forward to a SE of MGS5. Curious what this MSF side story is. pic.twitter.com/9U0kxZnoDg
