Spidey swinging to the top of the box office
Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the first film to surpass $1billion at the global box office during the coronavirus pandemic.
The film, which has been the subject of rife speculation online in the months leading up to its release, stars Tom Holland as the titular web-head.
The film also stars Zendaya as MJ and Benedict Cumberbatch as MCU staple Doctor Strange.

It’s taken Spidey and his friendly neighbourhood companions less than two weeks in cinemas to reach the benchmark, making it the third fastest film to achieve the feat, surpassed only by Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
The last film to reach the $1B mark was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker back in December 2019.
The viral attention the film garnered prior to its release has probably gone a long way to its box office success, after rampant speculation about the return of previous Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told CNN Business. “These numbers would be very impressive in the pre-pandemic era, but for Spider-Man No Way Home to sprint to a billion dollars in this marketplace is really hard to wrap your mind around.
“The monumental achievement of No Way Home hitting this number cannot be overstated for this industry right now,” he said.
